It is the era of aluminum at Keebio! Read on to find which of the products suit you and your desk aesthetic needs. These will drop Wednesday, December 7th at 11am EST.

There are a limited number of cases available during Round 1, and we should have some more available in Black and Gray in January 2023.

Grading

Similar to the way we got grades in school... we ranked the quality of our manufacturers. Emily has appraised the machine work, so take a moment to learn what to be cognizant of.

General Grading Notes

  • A Stock has only one imperfection or none. (Only Black and White have A stock. The prototypes are A- stock and B.)
  • A- Stock has up to 3-ish imperfections across both halves.
    • Mostly on either the seam between the pieces or the edge to the bottom for the blacks.
    • Mostly they're not dings from anodization, they're machining marks from before the anodization step, so they still look the same color black
    • They just look like a different cast, as they catch light differently
    • Prototypes often have post anodization chips
    • The imperfections are spread out between the two halves, so it's not like one side will have more flaws than the other.
  • B Stock has more issues than A- Stock
  • Prototypes have a line on the inside of the case that goes around (not harmful and will not be visible upon assembly, but it will be present). These are machining marks.

More specific grading notes are below. Jump on down for a read!

Black

The Black Iris Aluminum Edition cases are broken into A and A- stock.

  • A stock looks good on the outside!
  • There can be machining marks on the inside, not visible when assembled.
  • A- stock has up to 3 imperfections across both halves.
  • Flaws are mostly not dings from anodization, they're machining marks from before the anodization step, so they still look the same color black.

White

The White Iris AE cases are broken into A, A-, and B stock.

  • These mostly have the streak marks/striations.
  • It would be good to keep a pressurized air can on hand because these have a little bit of metal shavings in the holes (even after drilling in and out).
  • The coating leaked in the holes, but it should not impede function

Prototype Rose Gold

The Rose Gold Iris AE Prototype was the first round manufactured. There is A- and B stock.

  • There's no burger mounting, the plate goes flush against the top housing, so there are no O rings in those sets.
  • They were all a little worse off than the production run: what was counted as a mark off of them was more significant than the black or white.

Prototype Matte Black

The Matte Black Iris AE comes in A- and B stock.

  • Overall the Matte Blacks show scratches easily
  • They will scratch each other
  • The plate will scratch the coating
  • You can rub off some scratches, but not all of them.

Prototype Mossy Gray

The Mossy Gray Iris AE comes in A- and B stock.

  • Textures are consistent between top and bottom.
  • Tops and bottoms are very different colors.
  • Post-anodization scratches are visible.

Prototype Manatee Gray

The Prototype Manatee Gray Iris AE comes in A- and B stock.

  • These look better than the Mossy counterpart.
  • Tops and bottoms are very different colors.
  • Two different textures from the top and bottom. (Bottom piece is more coarse and the top is more smooth.)

General Issues for Cases

  • A- stock has up to 3-ish imperfections across both halves.
    • Mostly on either the seam between the pieces or the edge to the bottom for the blacks.
    • Mostly they're not dings from anodization, they're machining marks from before the anodization step, so they still look the same color black
    • They just look like a different cast, as they catch light differently
    • Prototypes often have post anodization chips
    • The imperfections are spread out between the two halves, so it's not like one side will have more flaws than the other.
  • Prototypes have a line on the inside of the case that goes around (not harmful and will not be visible upon assembly, but it will be present). These are machining marks.

Within the Cases

When you order an Iris AE, it will come inside its very own carrying case. These are the items you'll find inside alongside your Aluminum Iris:

FR4 plates specific to the Iris Aluminum Case
SKUF Feet, Hex Keys, O-rings
  • SKUF Feet
  • FR4 plates
  • O-rings for the burger mounting (except for the Rose Gold edition)

Hard Work

Emily put a lot of hard work into this project! She's a great teammate and has a phenomenal eye for detail. She says her favorite of the lineup we have on offer is the Rose Gold!
